The Becoming Community is made up of all the women who have completed The Becoming Journey®. This warm and supportive network of women comes together to create connection, provide support, continue learning and make ripples in the world.
One of our recent events was an Unjudged® session, where we share stories of women’s lives. By having the courage to truly listen and appreciate, we broaden our understanding of the human experience. These events build awareness, challenge stereotypes and prejudices, and help us to step into the shoes of others.
Our most recent story teller was Aleksandra Hertelendi. Here are her reflections on the experience…
Reflecting on my journey
Growing up in Eastern Europe during a time of significant shifts, my life has been a mosaic of challenges that shaped my resilience and adaptability. From grappling with health struggles to feeling like an outsider, these early experiences served as stepping stones, making me stronger and more adaptable.
My work history spans from factory work to high-level consulting and multiple international moves. But, I found my niche in change and transformation consulting. The diversity in my experiences has given me insights into people and various industries, and has equipped me with the ability to bounce back, regardless of the circumstances.
As I’m reflecting on me sharing my story with the Becoming community, the theme of courage over comfort resonates deeply, reflecting on my transformative journey. Here’s what I know, and think has helped me on the journey.
Facing the reality
Acknowledging the reality of a situation has been the cornerstone of my journey. It’s not about “seeing the silver lining, seeing the possibility”. That will come with hindsight. It’s about embracing the raw emotion of feeling stuck as the impetus for change. The discomfort is important and becomes a driving force, pushing me into motion and initiating the process of transformation.
The only way is through
Remembering Joseph Pilates’ wisdom, I’ve learned that change happens through movement, (and movement heals). It’s not about sprinting through challenges but committing to a steady, forward momentum—one step at a time. Doesn’t matter whether the steps are slow or fast. What matters is the continuous movement, reflection, learning, trial, error, learning, jump into the unknown and figuring it out next step when you get there.
Know where you are heading
In navigating change, it is crucial to have a clear sense of direction, even if the destination is not entirely defined. It’s not about having absolute clarity on things we want to have, or do. It’s more about the understanding of how I want to feel and clarifying my intent in reaching my goals. Holding the vision of the destination loosely and allowing my emotions, intent, and values to guide me has uncovered unexpected opportunities along the way.
The fastest way is one step at a time
The desire to fast forward through trials and errors is a familiar impulse. Yet, my journey has taught me to embrace the suck—the inevitable challenges that come with change. Each difficulty becomes a necessary part of the transformative process, a vital step toward personal evolution.
Believe that it’s possible
Surrounding myself with believers and supporters has been a lifeline in my journey. While it’s easier to stay small and accepted, taking a leap toward a new version of myself requires courage. Seeking the company of those who believe in my potential and aspirations has fuelled my belief in the possibility of change, growth, and becoming a better version of myself.
Telling my Unjudged® story helped me to reflect on my personal narrative of authenticity and purpose. I hope it resonates with others on their unique journeys of transformation.
