Invest in Disabled People

In the UK nearly 1 in 4 of the working age population are classed as disabled.  There are over 6 million disabled people in employment and it is estimated that 15% of people in the UK are neurodivergent.

In practice, 25% of any large workforce will have a disability or long-term health condition.

Those organisations that do the most for disability inclusion reap rewards.  They see twice as much economic profit as their peers, as well as at 25% uplift in productivity.  Disability and neuro-inclusion has the power to drive productivity, revenue, talent attraction and innovation.

Disability inclusion isn’t just about removing barriers.  It is about building organisations where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

The Beyond Programme

We often use metaphor in our work.  Imagine for a moment that a disabled person is like the driver of a car.  Their car works differently to your car – it has a different engine, different wiring, etc.

Rather than teach the whole organisations about cars, we focus on the driver of that car.  How can we best quip them to get to their destination, no matter what car they drive?

The Beyond Programme is underpinned by the well-researched psychological approach called Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT).  It is an inherently disability affirming approach, that focuses on appreciating the difference and strength of each individual.

Our work equips disability people with the psychological flexbility to face the challenges of their careers and engage with what truly matters to them as leaders.

The Beyond Programme equips leaders to...

Open up

Leaders learn to notice persistent thought patterns and feelings that hold them back or keep them stuck in unhelpful loops of behaviour.  They learn techniques to drop the struggle and free themselves up to spend energy on the things that matter to them.

Be present

Leaders learn to stay present even when difficult thoughts or feelings threaten to knock them off track.  They develop skills to stay engaged in the moment and open to possibilities and opportunities

Do what matters

Leaders learn to take action based on what matters to them as a person and as a leader.  They learn tools to help them make active values-led choices about how they will lead, even in the face of challenge and uncertainty.

For disabled leaders

The Beyond programme is an organisational leadership development programme for disabled people.

It is designed for individuals who are skilled and capable in their job, but have the potential to go further and achieve more as leaders in their organisations.

Beyond is a programme for leaders who do not need to be ‘told’ how to lead, but would benefit from tools and techniques that enable them to develop their own leadership style and impact.
