Unjudged: A story of racism and black sons from the life of Francoise Nash

“It isn’t as simple as I am black you are white”

Many of us have not experienced racism. Having things daubed on our walls, our friends thinking we might be cannibals, our hair touched just because it’s different; these are not the experiences of many of those who live in the UK. Similarly, if we are mothers, we may not live with the same dread. The dread that people will accept our children using stereotype as their guide and take actions towards them based on prejudice.
Francoise is an experienced client director. With a career spanning a range of world-class leadership development organisations she has worked to help businesses to create better organisations, teams and cultures. Francoise has agreed to share her story to help us understand her experience of being a black mother raising black sons in this country.

Unjudged

Our Unjudged series creates opportunities to hear stories from the lives of other women.  By having the courage to step into these stories we broaden our understanding of the breadth of human experience.
You, the listener, will be invited to listen deeply and question respectfully.  And when you do, you gift the storyteller the opportunity to have their story truly heard.  Together, we will build our awareness, challenge our stereotypes and prejudices, and learn to step into the shoes of others.
Each event will last 30-45 minutes, depending on the questions from the audience. Unjudged events will take place regularly, and will focus on the many and varied experiences of women. If you have a story that you wish to tell, please do get in touch with us: becoming@becoming.training.
